Picture of Michele ChinitzI am a PhD candidate in English at The Graduate Center, CUNY.

My research focuses on 20th- and 21st-century Anglophone literatures, particularly in the areas of postcolonial studies, the novel, media studies, translation, and critical theory.

My dissertation examines music and critiques of nationalism in modern fiction. It considers novels that position literature in debates about aesthetics and politics through reference to music, and that reimagine colonial and fascist histories in comparative ways.

In recent years, I was a graduate fellow at the Center for Place, Culture and Politics of The Graduate Center and a guest researcher at the University of Antwerp. I hold an MA from the Free University Berlin and BA from Williams College.
